Engineering department grows from strength to strength

MRB Schumag welcomes the addition of further experienced engineers to bolster the engineering department.

Despite these challenging times for the copper tube industry and indeed the wider economy, MRB Schumag has continued to invest in innovation through its core engineering function. Over the summer months the company has recruited additional, high quality engineers into the mechanical, electrical and commissioning teams as part of the continued development of the department and vision for the company going forward.

New Sales Coordinator joins MRB Schumag

MRB Schumag is pleased to announce the appointment of Ian Mason as Sales Coordinator.

Ian comes from a strong technical sales background, and will be offering our customers the latest machine upgrades, spare parts and service for the many MRB Schumag machines in operation around the globe.

As global copper tube production shows some positive signs of returning to growth, Ian will be working closely with customers to ensure they get the best from their MRB Schumag equipment, to give them that competitive advantage when they need it most.

ISO 9001:2008 revalidated
29th April 2010

MRB Schumag is pleased to announce that it’s ISO 9001:2008 Accreditation has been revalidated following a successful external audit on 29th April 2010.

“Following last year’s successful triennial audit which saw our Quality Management System meet the criteria of the 2008 standard, this revalidation reaffirms our continued commitment to quality throughout the business process,” said Avril Hutchinson, QMS Administrator.

ISO 9001 is by far the world’s most established quality framework. It sets the standard for quality management systems for thousands of companies in hundreds of countries across the globe.


 
Tube & Wire Exhibition 2010 in Düsseldorf

MRB Schumag will be exhibiting at the International Tube & Wire Exhibition, from 12th -16th April 2010 in Düsseldorf, Germany.

The biennial exhibition is the most prominent in the industry calendar, attracting huge numbers of visitors from across the globe. We will be exhibiting together with our colleagues from SMS Meer and SMS Schumag in Hall 7A, Stand B16.

Golden Dragon invests in new Jumbo Coiler lines from MRB Schumag
20th January 2010

MRB Schumag Ltd., a member of the SMS group, Germany, received an order from Golden Dragon Precise Copper Tube Co., based in Xinxiang, China; to supply three Jumbo Coiler lines within 2010.

The new Jumbo Coiler line offers copper tube producers the opportunity to produce a single, finished coil of up to 1000kg in ACR tube; thus greatly improving production efficiencies and offering a highly attractive product to the growing ACR market. The line can be tailored to include in-line annealing and nitrogen back-purging systems, thereby producing ready-for-dispatch jumbo coils.

The project marks a milestone investment in the success story of Golden Dragon, who continue to use MRB Schumag’s latest technology machinery in their plants and will begin to produce jumbo coils in both China, as well as in their new facility in Monclova, Mexico.

The Jumbo Coiler is a further important project in the long lasting partnership between MRB Schumag and Golden Dragon. The latest technology will allow the company to develop a fantastic new tube product to gain advantage in the ever-competitive copper tube market place.


Coast to Coast charity cycle ride
19th October 2009

On 4th October 2009, a team of brave MRB Schumag employees completed the 150 mile Coast 2 Coast cycle challenge in aid of local charity, the Butterwick Hospice.

Starting with the back wheels of their bicycles in the Irish Sea and finishing two days later with their front wheels in the North Sea, the guys endured gale force winds, rain and even hail to cross the breadth of the country. Despite this, a thoroughly enjoyable time was had by all involved!

A big thank you goes out to all those who supported the team and donated so generously to this very worthwhile cause. So far we have managed to raise an incredible £2,430.50 for the Butterwick Hospice and donations can still be made via our Just Giving page http://www.justgiving.com/MRB-SchumagC2C/ which is a fast and totally secure way of making your donation.

MRB Schumag appoints Financial Director

The company are pleased to announce Sarah Garbutt’s promotion to the Board in her capacity as Financial Director.

Working in partnership with Blue Shark Design, based in Newcastle; a modern web space has been created, to showcase the company’s products and services.

It is somewhat overdue, and we certainly feel that this site represents what MRB is all about in 2009, as part of SMS Meer. MRB Schumag achieves ISO 9001:2008 Accreditation

MRBcri Update
March 2009

In Autumn 2008, we launched our Carbon Reduction Initiative team, otherwise known as MRBcri.

Since then, we have completed several tasks in order to reduce MRB Schumag’s impact upon the environment; firstly calculating our Carbon Footprint and subsequently devising a plan going forward to reduce our carbon emissions.

We are currently exploring renewable energy options, and plan to review our Carbon Footprint in Autumn this year. All of our “green” achievements will be posted on the news page in due course.

Paul Storey – 25 Years Service
February 2009

MRB Schumag’s Managing Director, Paul Storey, celebrated his 25 years service with the company on 6th February 2009.

Joining the company in 1984, Paul worked in the Purchasing department and went on to become Purchasing Manager and then Managing Director of MRB Schumag in 1997.

“I am proud to say I have worked for the same company for 25 years. MRB Schumag’s internal and external partners make it a great place to work,” said Paul.

Ian Paley assumes Technical Services responsibility

SMS Meer GmbH take over machine engineering activities of Schumag AG

With effect from 1st December 2008, SMS Meer GmbH has taken over the machine engineering activities of Schumag AG, incorporating MRB Schumag Ltd., as well as the Schumag facilities in the USA and China.

With this step, SMS Meer has complemented its product range, to be able to offer the complete solution for copper tube plants. From liquid metal through to the finished copper tube, the total process can now be competitively supplied from a single source; combining a wealth of experience and unrivalled reference lists of leading tube producers across the globe.

MRB Schumag and Cupori Oy work together to refurbish Spinner Blocks
September 2008

MRB Schumag Ltd., UK, is pleased to announce the beginning of a project with Cupori Oy, Finland, to carry out refurbishments on their MRB Spinner Blocks. The machines have been successfully drawing copper tube in Pori for decades now, and are to be fitted with the latest electrical control systems, allowing Cupori to see substantial improvements without the need to invest in new machinery.

An increasingly popular move for MRB Spinner Block customers, the merits of electrical refurbishments allow for increased product quality, and increased productivity. Advances in technology provide much improved operator and maintenance-friendly software. Key savings are able to be made by eliminating the need to source old, often obsolete spare parts for ageing equipment, and by reducing machine downtime. Some examples of features of the latest control systems include speed control cameras, auto-crawl, fault diagnostics, and state-of-the-art human-machine interface equipment.

The project marks another milestone in the long-standing relationship between MRB Schumag and Cupori, where new management has recently taken over copper tube operations. The proposed refurbishments of the Spinner Block fleet will inject some of the latest innovative technology into the trademark longevity of the MRB equipment, to ensure modern, cost-effective method of drawing copper tube to allow Cupori to continue to exceed the expectations of the market.

MRB Schumag and KobeWieland embark on new projects

MRB Schumag Ltd is delighted to announce the sale of another batch of their high-speed Inner Grooving Lines for copper tube to KobeWieland Copper Products of Pine Hall, North Carolina. The sale marks the culmination of a groundbreaking year for MRB Schumag’s industry leading design, which combines superb line speed and tooling efficiency with modular flexibility, and the proven durability that customers have come to expect from the company’s products.

The project marks the high-point in a further developing relationship between MRB Schumag and KobeWieland, which has seen the companies work closely together and combine their wealth of experience to define the latest solutions for the modern copper tube mill.

IUSA continues tradition with MRB Schumag
June 2007

UK organisation, MRB Schumag is delighted to announce another sale of their revolutionary new Spinner Block.

Mexican based IUSA s.a. have committed to the purchase to satisfy their exciting copper tube production plans in the NAFTA region. The transaction further cements the relationship between the 2 organisations, which now spans many decades and in the region of 20 Tube Blocks.

Paul Storey, Managing Director of MRB, commented, ” This is the first sale to the NAFTA region. We are particularly pleased, as IUSA were one of the very first customers of the SB2200 Block, following its introduction to the market in the early 90′s. This latest machine has been in development for

several years, and has numerous innovative features appealing to all disciplines involved in the purchase, operation and maintenance of a Spinner Block. The relationship with IUSA dates back to the 1950′s, when the late Mr. Alejo Peralta bought the first Block from the then, Marshall Richards Machine Co. The association is something we are very proud of and this sale, further confirms IUSA’s desire and commitment to be working with the very latest technology for the intermediate drawing of copper tubes”

IUSA’s current tube manufacturing operations extend to 3 facilities, producing 120,000 tonnes of copper tube per year.
